- Blue, Gold and Red Meet, April 2: As always, our intrasquad meet drew a great crowd of swimmers, competing for honors in both participation and shoe donations.  The Blue team (last names A-K), led by Swimmer of the Year Barbara Jones, took top honors for most swims by the team. The Gold team (last names M-Z), with Swimmer of the Year Carl Mortensen at the helm, dominated the shoe donation competition. As always with team events that benefit our community, ALL were winners - we had fun with our teammates, practiced racing and got a great workout, and over 130 homeless children in the Bay Area will have new shoes to wear for the next school year!  Thank you to all swimmers and shoe donors, with a big thank you to Doug Vort for his $500 contribution. Also, a special thank you to Timi Most for championing My New Red Shoes and arranging all the shoe donation logistics.

 Total swims:  Blue - 177, Gold - 137
 Total shoes:  Blue - 60, Gold - 72, Community - 5

- Pacific Masters SCY Championships: Great weather led to a great meet with great swims by Menlo teammates! 16 swimmers turned in over 90 individual and relay swims during the three days in Pleasanton. We had solid Menlo competitors in all age groups from 40-44 up to 75-79. And we had both Eduardo Llach and Peter Shepherd in pool competition for this meet - great to have them back. Swimmers worked hard in their races, then socialized and cheered for one another in between.  Always a relaxing way to get away for a weekend! Some highlights of the meet:
  - 10 individual and 1 relay team records were broken: John Sulzbach (3), Sandy Dutro (2), Judith Schwartz (2), and one each for Louise Feeley, Barbara Breen and Karen Levy
  - Dave Gildea had three 1st place finishes, Tasha Capen had two
  - Nearly half of the swims (41) were top 3 finishes
  - John Sulzbach, Sandy Dutro, Judith Schwartz and Dave Gildea swam a Menlo record-breaking 200 free relay for the 55+ age group; they broke the prior record by 5 seconds - held by a relay team both John and Sandy raced in six years ago!
  - Menlo Masters was ably represented by:
Barbara Breen    Tasha Capen     Richard Cottrell
Stephanie Couch  Sandy Dutro     Louise Feeley
Dave Gildea      Jean Gillon     Karen Levy
Eduardo Llach    Jana Matena     Judith Schwartz
Peter Shepherd   Kent Stietzel   Judy Strauss
John Sulzbach

- Notable SCY Swims: Menlo Masters swimmers have represented us well in other pool competitions this season.  Murray McLachlan swam a 1650 in a postal competition and turned in the fastest time ever for his age group in that annual competition - and set a new team record in the process. Six team members competed at the Bay Area Senior Games: Kathleen Barcos, Katy Basile, Richard Cottrell, Sandy Dutro, Dave Gildea and Suzanne Zebedee all turned in impressive swims - over half of the 24 swims were first place finishes; Sandy Dutro set a team record in the 50 breast. And USMS SCY Nationals were held in Mesa, AZ at the end of April. Barbara and Dave Breen, Jana Matena, Judith Schwartz and Judy Strauss represented us well with 18 individual swims and 1 relay.  Barbara set new team records in the 200 and 500 free, and Judith also set one in the 500 free.

Congratulations to all!
