2010 Annual Team Schedule and Re Registration
This time of the year, athletes are usually very busy doing two things: Reflecting and Planning.
Reflecting on how and why our goals were achieved and at the same time being honest with why we may have fallen short on others.
Planning for the upcoming year can be a very exciting proposition, with all the events and activities that await us. I promote choosing a theme for your year and then adding in the trainings and events that support your theme. The goals that you set are the most powerful psychological tools that you can posses.
Menlo Masters will be embarking on its 20th year of operation and we hope that you find the athletes, the trainings and the special events meet your standards and exceed your expectations. I am completely biased but I believe you are a part of one of the most unique and meaningful groups of people around.
From my experience I am certain that some of the individuals you interact with on the team will end up being your friends for life, regardless of where the upcoming years and decades take you. The bonds formed on this team and in this sport are lasting.
2010 is shaping up to be another great year for our team. We are planning and scheming ways to continue to keep the team fresh, vital and valuable to all our athletes. We will continue to follow some of true and tested traditional forms of training, while tweaking other things here and there with the goal of a positive training effect and a creating a memorable experience.
A few notable additions this year are:
1. Pre-Masters- This new program will cater to the novice swimmer who would like to progress in a structured setting.
2. Alignment- Menlo Masters has partnered with a local event production company named USA Productions to jointly host 3 sanctioned open water competitions at Shadow Cliffs and Uvas Reservoir. We will also provide open water clinics geared to the novice swimmer in the weeks before the races.
3. Speed Club- Swimmers attempting to achieve time standards at the distance of 100 yards. Men and women will be chasing separate time standards. (see below)
4. Year Rounder-Swimmers who complete a single 10,000 yard swim workout
once a month for twelve months straight beginning in January.
5. 100 Mile Club-This is a new level added to the February Can-Do challenge
in addition to the 50,000 and 100,000 yard standards. 100 miles equals
176,000 yards.
The following information contains two parts. Part one is related to our 2010 Annual Team Schedule of Events. Part two is related to Re-registration for the team in the upcoming year.
There has been a slight increase in fees for 2010 amounting to 3%. The increase was inevitable, but as a business we are proud of the fact that this is our first increase in nearly 10 years.
Replenish your energy in the next few weeks if necessary by staying away from the pool. Or conversely, use the water and the team to counter-balance the sometimes rushed pace of the holiday season. Refresh your outlook on exercise and our sport. Cherish your time with family and close friends during the holidays. Return in the New Year with a healthy, balanced perspective on how you fit into the team and into our sport.

USMS:
All of our swimming members need to be a registered member of USMS in order for our insurance to be valid. USMS has on line registration now, so you can use that process at http://www.usms.org/reg. Please note that you must join or re-register for USMS separately and to help expedite things on our end, please drop us a note to let us know when you have done so. We will, however, be doing a check to make sure that all of our members have registered. Please take care of this as soon as possible so as to not put our team in jeopardy!
Please let us know if you have any questions! You can email info@teamsheeper.com.
